Hi, I'm Lisa, originally from Manila, Philippines and presently residing in Baguio City, also in the Philippines.
Lasikasia.info is a website I created in 2006 when I turned 41. This is the age when LASIK surgery becomes a real option for folks like me who want to get our perfect vision back.
I have found out, in the course of my research, that I am not yet a candidate for the LASIK procedure, although I must admit, that creating information websites (my passion for the past few years) has taken a toll on my eyesight, jumping from 30-40 to 50-70. Hey, for someone who enjoyed 20-20 vision until just a few years ago this MAJOR!
I found that the procedure is fast becoming popular in my country, being relatively inexpensive, with lots of skilled doctors and state-of-the art equipment available. So if for us who live here, the procedure is affordable, can you imagine what savings a foreign visitor would get?!
Enter medical tourism -- something short of a phenomenon for beautiful Asian countries like ours with highly skilled doctors! It now becomes such a treat for 'Westerners' to hop on a plane, get their surgeries done (whether lasik, dental or even liposuction) -- and recuperate in style, with enough money left over to take tours around our countries.
And all the while being attended to, if you wish, by the sweetest and most competent private nurses or nursing aides around (the Philippines supplies the world with nurses -- it's because our people are raised to be attentive and sweet, although shy).
Of course I am batting for my country, where, compared to other countries in Asia, the English language is spoken widely and (very fluently by the medical profession) every where you go!
